Description
Piston rings are one of the most critical components affecting engine performance. As the environment surrounding internal combustion engines continues to evolve, the technologies and engineering principles behind piston ring design are also constantly advancing. To incorporate these latest developments, the piston rings used in HKS piston kits have been redesigned with updated specifications utilizing the latest technology.
Additional sizes will be updated and released in stages.
【Features: Top Ring】
1. Reduced Blow-By Gas Under Both Cold and High-Temperature Conditions
- Compared to the previous design, the gas passage area at the ring end gap has been reduced by approximately 27% at room temperature, helping to minimize blow-by gas.
- By utilizing a material with a higher coefficient of thermal expansion, the ring end gap is further reduced by approximately 88% under operating (high-temperature) conditions.
- Potential concerns associated with the reduced passage area have also been thoroughly evaluated and validated, ensuring reliable performance even under demanding conditions.
2. Enhanced Performance and Durability Through Material and Surface Treatment Improvements
- A new material with approximately 37% higher thermal conductivity than the previous design has been adopted. This improves heat transfer from the piston while helping to reduce wear in the ring grooves.
- Ring tension has also been reduced to minimize frictional losses.
- The surface treatment has been optimized to improve initial seating characteristics, while the coating thickness has been revised to provide durability and service life exceeding that of the previous design.
